Here’s some Frequently Asked Questions. If you don’t find your answer here, we would love to talk.
Q: Gosh, you guys are neat. Where can I hear more?
Q: Does your iPad 2 case fit Apple's Smart Cover?
A: YES! All of our iPad 2 cases now fit with and without Apple's Smart Cover!
Q: Which iPads does your Blackbox Case fit?
A: Our case only fits the newly released iPad 2. The original iPad is substantially thicker and will not fit our case.
Q: Are your cases TSA Approved?
Yes...and no. Per the TSA website, "TSA will not approve or endorse any bag design or manufacturer. TSA will only allow laptops to stay in bags through screening if they provide a clear and unobstructed X-ray image of the laptop." We like to call our cases TSA Friendly.
More information on this topic can be found here: http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/simplifying_laptop_bag_procedures.shtm
Since TSA does not
officially endorse or approve any laptop bag designs, ours is no
exception. However, we have had a fair amount of comments from
customers letting us know they have had no issues with them during
security checks. And because we have a 100% guarantee, if the case
doesn't meet your standards for those checks, we'll take it back.
Q: Will you make cases for MacBook Air/Plastic MacBook?
A: YES! We have all of these on the drawing board. We promise to tweak them to perfection before release. Sign up for product updates below:
Q: Do you offer international shipping?
A: YES! We are shipping to any and all countries in the world now.
Q: How long does shipping take?
A: We suggest the shipment option of USPS Priority Mail, which takes 2-4 days.
Q: What if my case gets backordered?
A: First, we will let you know that we don’t have your case in
immediate stock, and give you an estimated time-to-ship. We will never
claim your credit card payment until your case has shipped.
Q: What’s it made of?
A: The body is made of two pieces of solid red oak hardwood. It is lined with wool felt padding. The strap is made of natural grain oiled leather.
Q: How do I know you guys don’t suck?
A: We stand behind our product. If you aren’t happy, we will make it right. We are engineers and professional woodworkers and we have been fine-tuning this design to perfection for the past year (and it’s patent pending). We're pretty sure you’ll love it!
Q: Will it fall apart?
A: No. We use very high quality wood and the case’s one bonded joint is guaranteed against failure. If it does send it back! (Just don’t run it over with your car and throw it at your roommate.)
Q: What’s on the inside?
A: High quality wool felt.
Q: How much does it weigh?
A: About 1.5 pounds. Weight fluctuates slightly depending on the density of the wood. Imagine a beer in a glass bottle. It’s surprisingly light.
Q: What is the finish on it?
A: We use a hand rubbed Tung oil finish. It is a product that soaks into the wood and hardens it, pulling out the luster. You can still feel the natural grain of the wood but get a very smooth texture. The finish also makes the wood highly water resistant.
Q: I spilled water on it!
A: Your case should be okay! Just wipe it off. If the inside of the case is wet, don’t put your computer in it until it has had time to dry.
Q: How do I take care of it?
A: Your case should age very well. Mostly, we just recommend keeping it clean (rag damp with windex or wood floor cleaner), avoiding overly sharp objects (like harpoon guns), and enjoy it!
Q: What if I drop it?
A: Your case will probably incur some damage if dropped on an edge. We think of it like a bicycle helmet… it breaks itself to save your head. However, try to avoid dropping your computer, as with any product out there.
Q: Does it make static electricity?
Q: Do you offer tours?
A: Not Currently. We are so busy making your beautiful case that we can’t do factory tours. We do try to hit up happy hour on Fridays in Golden though…
Q: Why the name "Blackbox?"
A: The creator, Lance, decided to chase his childhood dream and became a pilot. In an airplane the "black box" is a crash-proof box where all the most valuable information is protected and stored.
